Hope for Optimism?

Posted in Choices, Decisions, Expectations, Future, Happiness, Human Nature, Interaction, Society tagged , , , , , , , at 1:22 pm by lemaclellan

So I have been noticing a disturbing (well to me at least) trend in how other people view the world, interactions, people, etc. it seems to be very belittling, pessimistic, and untrustworthy…. Being an optimist myself I don’t understand the lack of benefit of the doubt, hope, positive thinking etc that goes along with being an optimist even though it has been shown that having a positive frame of mind in everything you do is beneficial to your individual being.

By treating someone in positive, respectful ways you are more likely to get that back in equal strength or more but by treating others less than you would like to be treated then the downward spiral of treatment continues and in the end does no good to anyone.

It saddens me when I see people who have not done anything wrong being treated as if they have, because what good does that do except make the person doing the mistreating feel better about the interaction or circumstance.  I am not just saying this as an outsider because it has happened to me. Since I am naturally a kind, optimistic, positive, understanding person in the past people have taken advantage of that fact and vented or been pessimistic towards me thinking that I can handle it because my attitude will win out in the end, which it does but that does not mean that while the behaviour is going on it does not hurt me emotionally to hear all the negativity.

negative emotions, behaviours, relationships, and interactions drain all energy that the people may have because it takes so much more energy (at least from my perspective) to be negative than it does to smile and say kind words instead. These types of things are also almost like a virus as they spread the more you come into contact with them. Being positive works in a similar way but there just seem to be so many more negative people in this world compared to the positive, thus making it quite difficult for positive thinking to spread when the majority of people’s interactions are probably negative. It is like the old saying is the glass half-full or half-empty? they are the same measurement it is all about the different perspective one has, I always like to seeing things as being half-full, a that everything happens for a reason so there is no point in regretting because at one point that decision was what you wanted/needed and made you happy and one should never regret any happiness no matter what the final outcome because you can learn something from everything.

Hopefully when I become a teacher I will be able to slowly mend this perspective and help people see things from the positive side, So I guess we shall see how that fares when I finish that degree in 2 years. Is it too much to ask for the world to be a more positive, tolerant, optimistic place?

Oh well that is it for me today I think.

Hope you are all doing well

New Year Resolutions…

Every new-years people create goals and missions for themselves for the coming year. Some will vow to lose the weight they’ve been trying to lose for years and make the same resolution every year without success, others will want to save money, relationship changes, etc.  No matter what your resolution it has to be something you believe in and are driven towards wanting to complete, because if you don’t want it then why should you work for it.

I am by no means saying that you should not make resolutions because I make them and that would make me a hypocrite what i am saying however is to make them carefully and with lots of thought so that at the end of this new year you can say you did it

I pledge this year, 2011, that I Lauren MacLellan will put money into a house fund, get more healthy and active, learn something new (activity wise), and most importantly be myself and not sacrifice a part of it for anyone.  I am also going to invest more in my business so that I can prosper long-term and help with my goals of owning a house by the time i am done my second degree.

That said I am going to join a yoga class either at Mount Royal University or at a yoga studio by my house, I am going to try to find a level two salsa class i can attend that does not conflict with classes, I will only pursue and keep relationships that add positive things to my existence no negative, energy draining individuals. I will be successful and do everything to the best of my ability.

I hope that no matter what your resolutions for 2011 may be that you succeed and that they help you be the best you can be.

All the best New-Years wishes to you all

My Approach to Having Good People Skills

Interacting with others We all interact with people everyday of our lives be it in person, over the telephone, or digitally and how we communicate greatly influences how others perceive us and how they will interact with us in the future.  In order to sustain positive interactions, communication, and inevitably relationships be they business, personal, or fleeting meetings we must be transparent.

What I mean by transparent is that we should have no ulterior motives, intentions should be clear, and most importantly we should not disguise who we are. By being transparent and genuine others know that we are straightforward, honest, and more than likely they will feel able to trust us because of that honesty.

One other thing that should always be done is to actually listen to what the individual or group you are interacting with are saying. Paying attention and being able to show that what everyone says has value is key in building relationships and interactions. For me I know this is true because if I do not feel like my opinion is valued then I begin to question whether this person really cares what I have to say or about me.

Respect and Trust are earned , and not just given lightly. You must show respect to everyone you interact with that way they will treat you with respect, the only reason to not treat someone with the utmost respect is if they treat you disrespectfully without having the manners to apologize if they realize their mistake. The golden rule of ” treat others as you would like to be treated” is the most important aspect of the human condition. If we treat those around us with respect, honesty, trust, and liking then they in turn will treat us that way and positive communications and relationships will build rather than decay through deceit, and disrespect.

As always if you have any questions, comments, recommendations leave them here or contact me to let me know, they are always appreciated.

Treat others as you would like to be treated

These are also helpful tips to use if you plan on joining up with any Network Marketing company as you will have to interact with and engage new people.

The 3 Most Effective Ways to Meet New People Being the gypsy that I am, I have plenty of experience finding myself someplace totally new and knowing very few people.  In the early days of my uprooting and relocating adventures I used to search the internet looking for tips on how to meet people.  The advice I most commonly came across encouraged readers to join a gym, go to museums, frequent bookstores,  and talk to everyone everywhere!    Well, I’ve met one or two people at the gym over th … Read More
